Body Movement: Reflections

A remix album? I am not sure where the thought came from. My recent album “They Want To Make Your Body Move. I Wan’t To Hold You Perfectly Still.” is not what I would have considered ideal material to have remixed. Despite my doubts I decided to throw caution to the wind, upload the raw tracks and source code, and see what came back to me. I am still a little overwhelmed by what I received.

The remixers who responded did so in very much the way I had hoped; instead of remixing a specific track, they took each track as a starting point and played within the space of it. In most cases multiple tracks were brought into the mix to shape something new entirely. The resulting compositions were as much the work of the remixers as they were my own material. With this in mind, I chose to credit the tracks directly to the remixers instead of listing them as remixes of my own material. My part in this process has been to organize a cohesive album instead of a collection of tracks. I think that the end result is an album that stands as a worthy companion to the original yet exists as more than just a point of comparison.

I am eternally indebted to the remixers on this project for helping to see my own work in a new light. I would like to give an extra thanks to Katie Gately and Barton Graham for advice on the mix and artwork.

I am excited that I will be able to share this collection of work with the rest of you on February 14th.
